Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead flat pointed oval seal matrix. The face is very badly worn and corroded resulting in the loss of almost all of the detail except for a recessed pellet in the centre. Also, the entire inscription has also been lost except for the vague impression of a U or W to one side. The reverse has similarly suffered from ware and corrosion. Traces of a central spine are visible that are flanked by a semi-circular arch the has a pellet in the centre. there would have been a loop at one end of the spine but this is now completely truncated.
