An incomplete fragment from a gold bracelet dating from the late Victorian period (c. 1865-1890). The bracelet is misshapen and flattened in the soil; it is rectangular in shape and section. The front face has an intricate applied surface of wires formed into a series of geometric bands and rectangular borders. The central element is a series of wires forming six-petalled flowers set within square shaped plaques. These are bordered by repeating U shaped scrolls with circular annulets of wire in each corner. Gold finger ring / 'posy ring' with incised inscription on interior face dated to the later post medieval period (c. 1650-1750 AD). The finger-ring is formed from a D shaped section hoop of gold, being broadly circular in plan (some distortion due to movement in the soil). The exterior of the ring is decorated with an incised design consisting of a floral repeating motif based on a flower stem. Gold finger-ring with external inscription, of 15th-century date. Description: The finger-ring is complete, comprising a broad, flat circular hoop of comparatively small diameter. The hoop was soldered and the feathered join is evident on both the inside and outside faces. The hoop has been engraved with leaves and flowers between words in black-letter script. The decoration comprises a four-petalled flower, repeated three times and flanked each side by springs of foliage. An inscribed gold finger ring with decayed niello inlaid panels and central stone setting that has lost the stone. The ring dates to the late post-medieval period. It is inscribed with several dates 1738 on the exterior of the hoop and 1736 and 1740 on the interior. It is therefore not covered by either the Treasure Act (1996) or the Treasure Trove Laws as the ring is not more than 300 years old and that it cannot be proved to be buried with the intention of recovery. Report for H.M. Coroner 2005 T567: Wellington, Herefordshire: gold mourning ring This tiny gold ring is engraved on the exterior with a skull flanked by cross-hatching all round the hoop. The engraving was originally enamelled black and traces remain. The inside is engraved in lower case script: In remembrance of MK, with a central dot after the M and the K, and a maker's mark RM (?) in a shield.
