An incomplete fragment from a cast Aesica type brooch dating to the early Roman period (c. AD 60 to 80) : The fragment is heavily rolled / abraded and almost all detail is lost. It seems that the undecorated wings are semi-cylindrical in plan with no evidence of wing caps, the spring and pin are lost. A large spinal ridge descend the bow dividing the brooch into two parts. The upper part is pierced with a single hole that would have held the upper chord of the spring. The lower bow, catch plate and foot are all lost. An incomplete cast copper alloy Polden Hill brooch of Roman date AD. 80-120. The brooch is complete having lost one wing and both pierced end-caps. The brooch is also broken across the lower bow and the foot knop is lost. The head of the bow is hump like and the spring, pin and axis bar are all lost. A cast rib that forms the catch plate extends on the reverse of the bow below the head , the external edge of this is lost. An incomplete cast copper alloy strap distributor / link for a horse harness fitting of later Early Medieval date. The fitting has a flat back and rounded front, it had two loops for straps, connected via a rectangular bar to either side of a barrel shaped central boss. There is a thin groove either side of the boss. The object is missing most of both loops due to ancient breaks. The central boss has a hollowed rear, and the side bars a central groove. The fitting had a green patina over the brown metal. The remains are 44mm long, 12mm wide and 10mm deep, it weighs 14.4g
