Three pottery sherds from a Roman vessel. These sherds are Severn Valley Ware. The fabric is orange buff in colour with a grey core Two of the sherds fit together and have a decorative rib that runs horizontal to the vesel. The semi circular rib is about 3mm high and 6mm wide. The vessel wall is 5.8mm thick. This fragments weigh 4.15g, 2.72g and 1.84g.

A base sherd of medieval or post medieval pottery (1400-1600). The side wall is near vertical and the base flat, making the vessel a jar. The base diameter was 17cm, and the sherd represents 9% of its circumfernce. The fabric is course, being orange-buff in colour, with red-brown patches. There is wide spread micra, with occasional flecks of quartz and black grit. On the inner surface in the junction between wall and base is a continous patch of olive green glaze. The wall thickness is 8.7mm. This fragment weighs 27.3g and is 51mm wide by 39mm tall.

A rim sherd of medieval pottery. The rim is flatted topped with a shallow, semi-circular lip on the outer surface (about 5mm in diameter). The vessel wall was near vertical suggesting a storage jar. The sherd represents about 5% of the rim, which had a diameter between 12cm and 16cm. The fabric is course, being orange-red in colour, with red-brown patches and inclusions of micra, quartz and black grit. On the inner surface there is a blackened residue. The wall thickness is 9.0mm immediately below the shallow rim. This fragment weighs 5.6g and is 24mm wide by 25mm tall.

A sherd of medieval pottery from the handle of a jug. The sherd has two groves of slashed decoration and patches of olive green glaze. The fabric is course, being orange-red in colour with dispersed inclusions of micra, black grit and temper. The handle is heavily abraded, but in one place the original thicness can be measured as 11.3mm. This fragment weighs 12.7g and is 34mm wide by 40mm tall.

A sherd of medieval pottery from the rim of a vessel. The rim is simply formed by rounding the outside of the vessel wall. This sherd formed about 5% of the rim and the diameter was between 14cm and 18cm. The fabric is course, being a dull orange in colour, with a thin grey core, suggesting a local source. There are many inclusions of micra, coal grit, black grit, quartz and temper. The vessel was possibly a cooking pot. The vessel wall varies in thickness from 11.9mm to 12.2mm. This fragment weighs 16.9g and is 36mm wide by 32mm tall.

A fragment of Roman pottery. This sherd is from the rim of a Samian Ware open bowl, possibly form 31, and possibly from Lezoux. There is a patch of red brown slip on both sides of the vessel, and the fabric is very fine. The vessel wall is 8.2mm thick. The lip is rounded and faces outwards at an angle of about 45 degrees from the line of the side wall. The sherd is 49.5mm wide by 57.4mm tall. It weighs 24.8g.

An incomplete cast lead alloy weight of unknown date. This plain, crude lead weight is broadly concial in shape and weighs one pound (491g). The weight originally had an iron loop, the stubs of which protude from opposite sides near the top. The conical shape has a broad rounded top, and around the base there is a wide, uneven lip. The weight has a cream patina, with the underlying grey metal showing at the sight of a recent plough strike. The weight is 39.6mm tall and has a maximum diameter of 54.3mm. The weight is similar to example 69 and 75 in Biggs and Withers, Lead Weights.

An incomplete cast copper alloy ramrod pipe from a musket or rifle of Post Medieval or Modern date (1650-1850). This pipe would of fitted into the stock of the fiream beneath the barrel to hold the ramrod. The pipe has been flattened but its original internal diameter of the pipe would of been about 12mm which gives us a rough calibre for the musket barrel of .5 of an inch, suggesting it was for game shooting rather than a military firearm. An incomplete cast cooper alloy buckle of Medieval or Post Medieval date (1350-1720). This find consists of the buckle frame which is is annular. The frame is slighlty oval, being 20.9mm tall across its middle, and 18.7mm wide. The frame is sub-rectangular in profile, being 1.7mm wide and 2.3mm deep, and is bevelled on the inner surface. The frame was completely encrusted in rust (iron corrosion) when found, most of this has been picked off, but removal had to stop when the frame snapped. A fragment of pottery from the neck of a Medieval jug. The fragment comes from where the body meets the neck, possibly at the base of the spout. Wall thickness is difficult to judge from this thicker curved area of the jug, but the body wall is 10.2mm at the edge furthest from the neck and the spout wall is 10.1mm at its furthest point. This is Green Glazed Worcester Ware from the period 1250-1350. The sherd is a hard courseware, orange in colour with a grey core. Patches of olive green glaze remain on the outer face. The fragment is 65mm long by 42mm wide. The fragment weighs 46.2g.

A late medieval - post medieval cast copper alloy coin weight. It is broadly square in plan and rectangular in cross section. Both the upper and lower surfaces are corroded - distorting the design. However, the upper surface is most probably a crowned shield displaying three lis of France whilst the reverse is a lis. The weight weighs 3.41 grams, which is 52.6 grains which falls within the weight range of a French Ecu (1422 -1525). The fact the weight is double sided suggests that it was made in the low coutries. A complete cast copper alloy ring of probable Roman - Modern date (50 - 1800). The ring is broadly circular in plan, and is a rounded, shallow rectangle in cross section. There is a thinner area, possibly due to wear. There is no obvious cast or incised decoration present. The ring has a light - mid greenish grey patina with areas of the reddish brown alloy still showing. The patination of the metal would suggest a Medieval or later date. A near complete Post Medieval copper alloy cast buckle. This is a two piece shoe or knee buckle dating from 1660-1720, with a symetrical double loop drilled frame with a separate spindle and a chape. The frame has raised concave sides, each with six radiating groves, its sides are convex with central collars, each collar having a central grove which serves as a tongue / pin rest. A fragment from a Medieval ceramic vessel. This sherd comes from the base. The base is flat, with an incised channel around its edge. The estimated diameter of the base is 14-16cm. The fabric is orange in colour with a grey core. The outer surface is buff colour, the inner surface is the same orange as the core but there are also patches of a dull olive stain which might be the remains of a glaze. Maximum thickness 11.6mm. It is Severn Valley Ware being orange-buff in colour with a greyish reduced core. The base of the dish would of been between 11cm and 13cm in diameter. The fragment is 6.9mm at it thickest. A fragment from the head of a cast copper alloy Colchester derivative (probably Dolphin style) brooch with hinged pin of Roman date (55-150AD). This brooch is unusually small. The head has a rolled spring case, with a central recess to take the back of the pin when the brooch was open. The casing is lost on both wings revealing the copper alloy axis bar the spring attached to. There is a decorative rib at the junction of the head and one wing, the other wing is worn but could also have had a matching rib.
