A Post-Medieval silver half groat of Elizabeth I (AD 1548-1603) dating to 1602. Third issue (North 2016). Mintmark: 2. London mint. North (1991:137). Obverse: [E D G ROSA S]IN[E SP]INA. Crowned bust left with two pellets behind.  Reverse: [CIVITAS LON]DON. Square shield on cross fourchee.Mintmark 2. The obverse is worn with pitting to surface on bust and area below the two pellets. Only one of the two pellets is clearly visible. The reverse is worn with only the DON inscription clearly legible.

A complete struck / hammered silver half groat of the Commonwealth period AD 1649 to AD 1660. The coin has been bent in two directions, forming an S shape. From the obverse, at an angle of 45 degrees from right to left, the lower third is bent backwards, and the upper third is bent forward. Bending coins in such a manner is often associated with 'love tokens' and was common during the later post-medieval period.
