A spindle whorl made from a circular cast lead medieval papal bulla of Pope Urban V (AD 1362-1370). The bulla has been deliberately defaced or reused by piercing/cutting a large circular perforation through the centre. The hole is irregular and positioned off centre, respecting the heads of Peter and Paul and the inscription above. The spindle whorl is broadly circular in plan and bi-convex in cross section. The central hole is circular and has been cast / set off centre; it has an internal diameter of 9.8mm. The upper surface is decorated with radiating horizontal raised ribs with pellets positioned at the mid-point on alternative ribs.
