The object consists of two bars placed parallel with a central moulded collar which has been worn and thus less prominent. A complete cast copper alloy hammer or possibly small anvil of unknown - probably post medieval, date. The body of the hammer comprises of a cylindrical shape which tapers at both ends - one into a wedge shape the opposite into a four sided point. The remains of an iron riod extends from one face and it is at this point that one egde is wide than the other. A direct paralell has not been found but given the method of manufacture and also the patina it is most likely to post medieval (1500-1800) The artefact measures 81.5mm length, 31.5mm width and is 28.0mm thick; the iron rod has …

A very small and heavily eroded copper alloy artefact which was probably once a polden hill type brooch of Roman date (AD 75 -120). The fragment is broadly triangular in plan and consists of a heavily abraded part of the head which includes one wing and the upper bow. On the reverse face a distinct U shaped depression can be seen which is very similar to the spring casing seen on polden hill brooches. The foot and lower bow from a cast copper alloy two-piece Wirral type bow brooch of Roman date (43-200AD). The head and upper bow of the brooch are lost due to an old patinated break. The bow of the brooch tapers slightly from the break being relatively long and angular. The foot is out-turned and projects from teh face of teh lower bow, it is separated by a transverse double bar. A near complete cast copper alloy Roman Trumpet brooch dating from AD 75 - 175. The brooch has been broken into two conjoing parts which have been recovered by repeated visits to the findspot. The break is unpatinated and crisp suggesting it is as a result of damage within the ploughsoil. The break is across the lower bow and the brooch is described from here-on as if complete. The function of the artefact is unknown and dating is based on style of decoration, form and patina. The artefact comprises of an openwork plate which is irregular in pland and rectangular in cross section. A complete but eroded cast copper alloy 'vesica' shaped seal matrix of medieval date (1200-1400). The seal matrix is sub-oval (oval with pointed ends) in plan and sub-rectangular in cross section. It has been heavily abraded by movement in the ploughsoil. On the reverse face of the seal on the upper edge in alignment with the two pointed ends, is a small sub-oval perforated lug. This lug is set at an angle of 90° to the plain of the body of the seal. The lug is broken due to movement in the ploughsoil possibly across a worn through use hole.
