A strap mount cast from copper alloy. The mount has a light green patina and shows areas on both the front and reverse of corrosion and pitting. On the front there are traces of a silvering or tinning, but this has been severly abraided and is now only visible in places. The mount is broadly of a sub-elongated triangle in plan. The edges have been abraided and rounded in the plough-soil causing the mount to become a-symetrical. The end tip of the mount (the tip of the triangle) is lentoid in plan, flaring then narrowing to a small shoulder, the body then flares again…

Roman copper alloy Claudian as, contemporary copy. Excellent example of how barbarous these imitations can be. Robert Kenyon, following on from the work by the French scholars P-A. Besombes and M. Bompaire (in Trésors Monétaires XXI, 2005), is working through the British examples of Claudian coinage recorded through the PAS assigning many so-called Claudian contemporary copies to Roman auxiliary mints which operated at Lyons (Gaul) and in Spain. This example is a native copy.
