A potential strap fitting, possibly dating to the late Iron Age, but could also be from the late Bronze Age.  The object is hollow, consisting of four sides: a top, bottom and two sides. The top is subrectangular in shapes, with convex outer edges. There are two sub-circular knobs on either side, and there is a central raised ridge. The bottom surface is thinner so the underside of the top surface is visible, also rectangular in shape with slightyl concave outer edges. The front of the object has a sub-circular hole (measuring 18.5mm wide and 7.5mm high)&…

An incomplete, copper alloy strap fitting of Post Medieval date (c. AD 1550-1800). The object is a bar mount with terminal sub-oval lobes at either end. The object is plano-convex, with a domed front and a largely flat reverse, except for the stubs of integral attachment spikes at both the top and bottom of the object. The object is extremely worn, and so whilst it may appear that there are no obvious remnants of what were raised ribs on the central segment of the object, akin to those found on HAMP-5F6AA8, this does not preclude the object from having had them at some point…

A cast copper alloy hooked strap fitting of probable post medieval date (1600-1800). The fitting is robust being broadly rectangular in plan. The fitting tapers from an expanded rectangular hoop to a thick D sectioned shank. The shank tapers along its length and terminates in a cast hooked projection - the tip of which is broken and lost. The reverse is flat and the remains of an iron plate are held to it by two cast copper rivets. The artefact is bent and abraded through movement in the soil. It is a mid green colour with a rough surface patina; in places a purple coloured corrosion …

A cast copper alloy strap fitting possibly a crude buckle plate of medieval date (1200-1500). The plate is rectangular in plan and section but has been bent through movement in the plough soil to form a twisted S shape. The plate is undecorated and is pierced in four places unevenly along the length. Each piercing is square in shape and most likely was formed by punching (possibly with a nail or punch. The underside of the strap plate has the remains / spall of the hole. One terminal is square in section whilst the other is raggedy either deliberately (but crudely) split / bifurcated …

Cast copper alloy strap fitting (belt mount) of probable later medieval date (1300-1500). The strap fitting is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and D shaped in profile; the edges are bevelled / faceted. The front face is slightly domed and decorated with a cast design which has been heavily abraded. It is likely that the mount is either a crowned head - or possibly more likely - a crowned 'Tudor' rose. The reverse face of the fitting is dished, irregular and undecorated. A single projecting integrally cast shank / rivet is present the tip of which is broken. The rivet would have passed…

A complete copper alloy post-medieval cast strap fitting (belt mount) of two symmetrical delta shapes, behind which is a suboval lobe, projecting downwards from the base. Two horizontal pointed rivet attachments bent in opposite directions on the reverse. The profile is flat with a chamferred along the outer side . The metal shows some corrosion with some areas having a dark green patina and others a pale green patina showing signs of bronze desease. The weight is 1.5g, the width is 8.2mm, the length is 22.3mm, the thickness including the hooks is 5.2mm and excluding the hooks is 1.9mm.

The fragmentary remains of a cast copper alloy hooked mount / strap fitting of probable post medieval date (1550-1700 AD). The mount is broken and all that remains is part of the upper plate which descends to form a hook. The hook is formed from the lower plate of the mount being bent back upon itself forming an even U shaped hook. The upper body of the mount is lost due to an old break; it would have been pierced and riveted to attach the mount to a strap or some similar leather garment. There are no decorative designs present or any trace of applied surface, such as gilding or tinni…

A cast copper alloy strap fitting of medieval date (1150-1450). The fitting is highly unusual being irregular in plan and profile. The frame of the fitting is D shaped with a recessed narrow axis bar with large triangular 'onion-like' knops at the ends. The external edge of the frame is curved and a slender bar emerges from the apex. The bar is shaped with a gentle curve terminating in a T shaped end. This form of strap fitting is extremely unusual and was probably constructed for a specific task. It is likely that the T shaped bar fitted through a loop or leather strap and it is deba…

A cast copper alloy fragment of probable later medieval or post medieval date (1400-1700). The fragment is incomplete, being broken along its upper edge, it is irregular in plan and profile. It is probably best described as having a drop bar rectangular strap fitting the upper edge of which is arched and snapped - the opposite edge is complete and unabraded. The buckle is a mid green colour with a well formed surface patina - there is no incised or applied surface decoration. In shape and form this strap bar fragment best resembles later post medieval buckles although an exact paral…

A near complete, copper alloy, hooked strap fitting of post-medieval date 1500-1700AD. The body consists of a trianglar plate with a shallow concave to its rear. At the wider, top end, there is a shallow dip in the centre between two rounded terminals, one of which is incomplete due to abrasion. At the narrow, bottom end of the plate is a hook that curves back to the underside of the fitting, and which still holds an attachment loop. Along the centre of the plate are two piercings with the remains of iron rivets which would of held this fitting to a strap. The hook is slightly oval, m…
