Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete post medieval (1500-1620) cast lead alloy (pewter) pin. The fragment consists of a sub-spherical decorated pin head (terminal). A small oval shaped scar is present on the underside of the pinhead. This is the point where the pin shaft would have joined the head. This damage is relatively old as a patina has developed over the break. It is highly likely that the pin head is hollow, being formed from two parts joined by solder, the pin shaft would have been attached through a oval slot in the lower half. A clear longitudinal seam can be seen at the mid point of the head. Th…

Fragment of a cast lead alloy toy, probably that of a single sided ‘Shy Cock’, of probable post medieval date (1600-1800). The shy cock toy is irregular in plan and profile. The main elements are a wide sub-circular thick base from which extends a relatively thin sectioned sheet which has cast decoration on one face and is plain on the other. A contemporary copy or forgery of a silver half crown of Charles I. The coin has a copper alloy (bronze) core with sheet silver applied over the surface. The coin is very worn possibly deliberately to allow the coin to pass as official. It is also badly abraded with the edges feathering and copper corrosion has leached through the silver surface. The coin is a copy of the half crown with the obverse detail almost completely lost. The reverse shows a garnished oval shield which would have been used between 1634-1649.
