A tranchet chisel struck on a tertiary flake of mid brownish grey coloured flint. The artefact is very regular and well made it is likely to be of prehistoric date: Neolithic - Bronze Age (3500-1800 BC). A direct parallel for such a specialist tool has not been found. The chisel is a triangular (wedge) shape in plan and rectangular in cross section. On the ventral face conchoidal ripples can be seen - from this the direction of the initial rough out blow can be identified; this is at right angles to the work on the dorsal face.
