A large substantial backed knife or side and end scraper of Neolithic date (4000-2000 BC). The knife is formed on a broad tertiary flake with a distinct baked ridge on the dorsal face. The distall end has a clearly prepared striking platform and ventral face shows bulb of percussion. The long edge of one side has been retouched with short scaled semi-abrupt retouch applied on the ventral face. The blunted end is retouched with short scaled semi-abrupt removals . A large knapped and flaked flint scraper of later Neolithic date (3000-2000BC). The scraper is unusual as it is formed from a large piece / flake of primary debitage. It seems to have been formed crudely and possibly discarded relatively swiftly; this is unusual in an area which has very small natural reserves of flint. The scraper / knife is broadly oval in plan and irregular in cross section. The ventral face suggests that it was struck using an uncontrolled blow which shattered the rock. It is possible this primary damage may actually have been natural and then the flakje has been …

A large oval shaped flint end and side scraper formed on a large tertiary flake dating from the Neolithic or early Bronze Age periods (3500-2100 BC). The scraper is formed from an oval shaped flake of relatively poor quality flint. The ventral face shows conchoidal ripples and the bulb of percussion . The dorsal face has a number of irregular and regular flake scars. The entire edge has been reworked / retouched with steep angled overlapping regular flakes creating by direct and indirect percussion creating a cutting / scraping serrated edge. A scraper formed on a large and irregular waste flake / secondary debitage dating from the Neolithic Period (3500 -2100BC). The flake is large and irregular being formed from relatively good flint, in plan it is sub-triangular whilst in section it is rectangular. Along one edges is an area of coarse external cortex; this would suggest that the flake has been formed from secondary waste / debitage. There is no evidence of a bulb of percussion on the lower (ventral) face; this has probably been removed when the flake was snapped. The dorsal (upper) face shows a series of flake facets or…

The flakes are not well preserved. All the flakes have irregular 'crazed' surfaces which are slightly translucent. The cause of this is most likely to be direct heat and rapid cooling. The most common evidence for this is flint waste and discarded tools being used as 'pot boilers'. As the term suggests this describes a technique common in prehistory for heating water. The use of this flint as a pot boiler would …

A fragment of a snapped knapped flint knife blade of later Neolithic or early Bronze Age date. The knife is formed from a broad flake of mid grey coloured flint. In plan the knife fragment is broadly rectangular and in cross section it is a similar sub-oval shape. The ventral face is struck from the opposing direction to the work on the dorsal face and is typical of Neolithic flake based working. The working reworking and retouch on the dorsal face is detailed and well applied; it is most heavily applied with small rounded regular flakes being removed; this flaking is very compact and…

A fragment of a snapped knapped flint knife blade of later Neolithic or early Bronze Age date. The knife is formed from a relatively narrow blade of mid grey coloured flint; the upper edge is lost. In plan the knife fragment is broadly rectangular and in cross section it is a sub-oval shape. The working reworking and retouch on the dorsal face is detailed and well applied; it is most heavily applied with small rounded regular flakes being removed; this flaking is very compact and neat being achieved with great skill; it is best described as short scaled and semi-abrupt. There are seve…

A large substantial backed knife of later Mesolithic or Neolithic date (6500-2000 BC). The knife is formed on a a broad tertiary blade with a distinct baked ridge on the dorsal face created by removals of previous blades. The distall end of the ventral face has a clear bulbar scar and bulb of percussion however the prepared striking platform has been removed by snapping and retouch. The long edges of both sides of the dorsal face have been retouched with acceptional care and skill. The retouch can be catagorised as being short scaled semi-abrupt. The blunted end / nose is likewise ret…

A fragment of knapped flint knife - or possibly a reworked projectile point of later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2900 BC - 1800 BC). The flint is sub-triangular in plan and an irregular trapezoid in cross section. The flint has been worked from a larger flake and the ventral face shows evidence of conchoidal ripples. The two long edges of the dorsal face show evidence of significant retouch which has been applied through pressure flaking; these have created a neat serrated edge. The lower short edge has several areas of vertical knapping on the butt suggesting it has been del…

A broken pointed end of a finely worked bifacial tool of translucent brown flint with light and mid grey inclusions. It has been totally invasively worked. The plan is a pointed symmetrical leaf shape, very much like a leaf arrow head but for a somewhat thicker section. Close to the slightly oblique break the sharp margin has been slightly blunted which suggests that the tool was a kind of knife. The implement is 30.9mm in length, 33.35mm wide, 8.3mm thick and weighs 8.4 grams
