Fifty Eight (58) fragments of secondary flint waste / debitage of Neolithic date (3500-2100 BC). All of the flakes are from secondary phase of working / flaking and are a direct result of preparation of flint tools. Most show clear signs of direct hard hammer knapping and the majority have been removed with minimal loss of flint from the nodule / core. The cortex is all mid grey in colour and the majority is chalk derived. The majority of the flint is a light grey through to black colour, although some pieces have milky white surface patina.

The rock from which it is made is a mid-brown fine grained igneous - possibly a diorite with significant inclusions of elongated rectangular black crystals - possibly biotite of hornblende. A large knapped and flaked flint scraper of later Neolithic date (3000-2000BC). The scraper is unusual as it is formed from a large piece / flake of primary debitage. It seems to have been formed crudely and possibly discarded relatively swiftly; this is unusual in an area which has very small natural reserves of flint. The scraper / knife is broadly oval in plan and irregular in cross section. The ventral face suggests that it was struck using an uncontrolled blow which shattered the rock. It is possible this primary damage may actually have been natural and then the flakje has been …

Mesolithic to early Bronze Age (c. 9000 to 1000BC) debitage: The debitage is similar to a core, but is probably a reused piece of debitage as one small face has cortex remaining. The other faces reveal a mottled blue to white patina. In plan the 'chunk' is sub-square and the surface has multiple scars at differing angles and it may have been truncated through damage. The item, measures 27.05mm tall, 27.13mm wide and 17.48mm thick. It weighs 19.14g.
The debitage probably dates to the Mesolithic to early Bronze Age periods, c. 9000 to 1000BC.

Neolithic to early Bronze Age (c. 4000 to 1000BC) scraper: The scraper appears to be knapped from a tertiary flake which is sub oval. The dorsal surface has multiple scars on the surface and some recent damage. The distal end has re-touch scars which are sub-parallel, are invasive and abrupt. The ventral surface has a bulb of percussion, and conchoidal ripples. The bulb of percussion has also been partly removed by a flake. The scraper is knapped from flint which is a mottled mid brown colour and has since developed a mottled white and grey patina. The scraper, measures 23.08mm long, …

Mesolithic to Neolithic (-8,300 to -2100) debitage: Primary flint flake with multiple scars and a strip of cortex on the dorsal surface. The ventral surface has conchoidal ripples, but the distal end is truncated but perhaps more recently and not intentionally. The proximal is also truncated, therefore the bulb of person is missing. The flint is a mottled light brown and white colour with a patina just starting to develop on the ventral and dorsal surfaces. 25.31mm long, 9.54mm wide and weighs 0.94g.
The flake probably dates from the Mesolithic to Neolithic period.

Mesolithic to Neolithic (-8,300 to -2100) debitage: Primary flint flake with a vertical, slender, scar on the dorsal surface alongside a strip of cortex. The ventral surface has conchoidal ripples, but the distal end is truncated but perhaps more recently and not intentionally. The proximal is also truncated, therefore the bulb of person is missing. The flint is a mottled dark grey colour with patina just starting to develop on the ventral and dorsal surfaces. 21.87mm long, 15.83mm wide and weighs 1.59g.
The flake probably dates from the Mesolithic to Neolithic period.

Five tertiary waste flakes of probable later Neolithic date (4000-2500BC). None of the waste present is reworked. All flakes are a mid-grey colour with surface patination present.
The largest flake measures,26.24mm length, 19.01mm width and has a maximum thickness of 7.16mm; it weighs 2.7 grams.
The smallest flake measures 11.72mm length, 10.20mm width and has a maximum thickness of 2.06mm; it weighs 0.3 grams.
Bulk weight of all flakes: 9.6 grams.
