Cast copper alloy bead of probable late Iron Age or Early Roman date (50BC-200AD). The bead is cylindrical and cast in one piece with a moulded exterior surface. This decoration is broadly symmetrical with three centrally positioned circumferential beaded ribs which give the impression of rope like pattern. Either side of these central ribs the bead expands / swells and then contracts forming a large swollen ring. At either terminal are raised bands similar to the central circumferential ribs which are similarly decorated. The interior of the bead is plain and undecorated.

Cast copper alloy bracelet of unknown age – probably late Iron Age – Roman (100 BC-100 AD). The bracelet is formed from a cast length of copper alloy bar which seems to have been twisted in a vice. The twists for the most part are regular, although a series of stress fractures are evident in a number of places. It is possible that it has been cast – although the mould it was cast from must have been based upon a twisted example. The bracelet is broadly C shaped, with an open edge which is flanked by two bird head like terminals. In cross section is a relative regular oval. The te…

The brooch is complete with only a little peripheral damage (with a length of 43.2mm, a depth of 15.8mm and a weight of 5.6g). The spring emerges from the rear of the head and coils four-times each side (with a width of 17.7mm and a diameter of 1.3mm at the spring and 2.0mm at the pin). The chord is tensioned by a claw at the head. The bow is flat-sectioned (with a width at the head of 9.2mm and a thickness of 1.2mm) with straight sides converging to the mid-bow. Cast copper alloy bow brooch of probable late Iron Age or possible early Roman date (300 BC- 100 AD). The brooch is complete. The pin is held by a hinge which is attached to an axis bar. This bar is probably made of iron, due to the large amount of orange staining and corrosion product present around the head of the brooch. The axis bar is contained by semi-cylindrical cover that is formed from the upper part of the brooch being rolled / folded upon itself and hammer welded to the reverse face of the head. The pin is connected to the axis bar through a small slit in this cover. The he…

An incomplete possible late Iron Age , La Tene II style - bow brooch c. 200-50 BC. The artefact is irregular in form and tentatively identified as a bow brooch due to certain distinctive / diagnostic elements. The fragment is incomplete ; the head is angular in shape tapering from a bulbous head to a distorted out-turned foot. The back of the head has a rectangular shaped projection - possibly the remains of an integrally cast spring. On the rear of the brooch - directly under the head is a wedge shaped separate piece of metal that tapers in line with the bow and is secured in place b…

Silver unit of the Dobunni tribe, provisionally dated to the late Iron Age 20 BC - 50 AD. The unit is similar to Allens classes I and J.
Philip de-Jersey, of the Celtic coin index has suggested: The coin (CCI 06.0574) is indeed a Dobunnic type along the lines of Van Arsdell 1135 or 1137 (Hobbs 3003-3005). The two types (corresponding to Allen classes I and J) are almost impossible to tell apart - particularly in this condition - and it's debatable in fact whether there is a valid distinction to be made, since elements of the design seem to overlap the two classifications. The datin…
