A copper alloy bridle bit, possibly dating to the late Iron Age to the Roman period (circa 100BC to 200AD). The object consists of two bars placed parallel with a central moulded collar which has been worn and thus less prominent. On each end of the bit, one bar has broken off and the other continues a short distance, curving slightly outwards before also ending in a break. A cast copper alloy fragment from the chape of a scabbard of a later Iron Age (La Tène III) sword (c. 200-50 BC). The fragment is irregular in plan and profile with a large fragment of iron passing through the centre of the piece; this iron fragment is probably the remains of the sword blade. In plan the piece is broadly sub-rectangular with irregular edges; in profile it is also irregular. Down the centre of the fragment, on one face only, is a large D shaped ridge. The head is decorated with an incised pattern of a debased spiral formed from incised lines set around a central raised pellet or dome. Cast copper alloy fragment of unknown function – most likely to be part of a harness of later Iron Age or Roman date (200 BC – 400 AD). The fragment is cast in one piece; it consists of four circles conjoined on their edges to form an irregular quatrefoil in plan. In cross section the artefact is sub-rectangular. The fragment consists of the central element of the handle and is broken at both ends. Both the fixing / attachment plates are lost. Iron Age to Roman (-100 to 200) cosmetic mortar: The copper alloy mortar is crescentic in profile and an elongated pointed oval in plan whose terminals are slightly bulbous knops. In section the mortar has a 'V' shaped section which is narrow and quite shallow. On the outer face of the mortar, at the apex there is an incomplete integral loop. The side faces are undecorated. The surface of the mortar has traces of a mid blue/green patina otherwise it is heavily abraded. It measures 39.09mm long, 5.34mm thick at the centre and weighs 3.4g. A copper alloy Late Iron Age to early Roman Langton Down brooch. The wings are semi-cylindrical with no wing caps, but the terminal and edges of the wings are broken so they may be tubular.
