A fragment of tertiary flint waste / debitage or possibly a broken tool / lithic implement of Neolithic date (3500-2100 BC). The artefact is formed on a broad flake with the majority of the knapped flakes being applied to the upper / dorsal face. The reverse / ventral shows a clear bulbar scar and conchoidal ripples emanating from a prepared platform. The dorsal has a series of long flake removal scars and both the long edges are retouched with irregular unorganised secondary working. The tip is snapped and the break is unpatinated. The flint is an unusual mid-reddish-brown colour wit…

Three abraded tertiary debitage waste flakes struck from a prepared core of Neolithic date (4000-2000 BC). The three flakes are broadly a rectangular shape in plan and both have various opposing removals on the upper dorsal faces. All three flakes have retouch applied to the one surviving original long edge on the dorsal face only; here it creates a crescent shaped removal which is reworked with retouch that is best described as short, sub-parallel and semi-abrupt. The extent and competency of this retouch varies. Such notches are associated with functional tools to strip material fro…

All have been reworked on the upper dorsal faces and most have flaking / removals in multiple directions. All seven of the flakes have retouch applied on at least one long edge which creates the point. The majority of this retouch is …

Large irregular oval piece of flint / nodule. There seems to be very little evidence of flaking or retouch present on either of the faces. Any facets present seem to be as a result of plough roll or frost action. This flint is recorded due to the exceptional size of the piece and the presence of other worked flints in the area. It is possible that this piece within the assemblage represents a reserve of flint for tool making; this is especially interesting as flint of this size is rare in the Marches.
Measures: 130.2mm length, 77.3mm width, is 57.5mm thick and weighs 740 grams.

The flint flake is not well preserved - evidence for retouch or secondary working can be seen along two edges of the flake. This retouch is sort, sub-parallel and abrupt in nature. Thumb nail scrapers are seen as being a utility domestic scraping tool; they frequently occur in assemblages dating to the beaker period - Late Neolithic and early Bronze Age.

Mesolithic to Neolithic (-8,300 to -2100) debitage: Primary flint flake with a vertical, slender, scar on the dorsal surface alongside a strip of cortex. The ventral surface has conchoidal ripples, but the distal end is truncated but perhaps more recently and not intentionally. The proximal is also truncated, therefore the bulb of person is missing. The flint is a mottled dark grey colour with patina just starting to develop on the ventral and dorsal surfaces. 21.87mm long, 15.83mm wide and weighs 1.59g.
The flake probably dates from the Mesolithic to Neolithic period.

Probable Mesolithic to early Bronze Age (8000 - 1000BC) retouched flake: The flint flake is knapped from a brown flint which has a strap of grey patina on the side edge. The ventral surface has a large bulb or percussion and slight conchoidal ripples. The dorsal surface has a negative scar. The distal end has a small curved notch which has been formed by re-touch.
The flake measures 18.66mm long, 23.56mm wide, 6.25mm thick and weighs 2.33g.
Retouched flakes are difficult to date as they are present throughout prehistory. Thus, a wide date range for this piece is suggested.

A scraper formed on a large and irregular waste flake / secondary debitage dating from the Neolithic Period (3500 -2100BC). The flake is large and irregular being formed from relatively good flint, in plan it is sub-triangular whilst in section it is rectangular. Along one edges is an area of coarse external cortex; this would suggest that the flake has been formed from secondary waste / debitage. There is no evidence of a bulb of percussion on the lower (ventral) face; this has probably been removed when the flake was snapped. The dorsal (upper) face shows a series of flake facets or…
