A flint knapped ovate multi purpose tool which could also be described as a knife or large laurel leaf point - it is of later Neolithic date (2700-2100 BC). The tool is formed on a mid grey coloured mottled 'local flint'. In plan it is a pointed oval (tear-drop) or cordate shape and in section broadly sub-oval (D-shaped). The tool is formed on a levalloise core with only a small area of cortex being present near the point on the dorsal face. Prehistoric flint knife, probably of Neolithic date The knife is of sub-triangular form and is incomplete, missing part of the retouched edge (with a length of 47.5mm, a width of 36.4mm, a thickness of 10.7mm and a weight of 16.8g). The retouch was confined to one edge and only survives on the distal end, abutting the cortex. The opposite edge may have been deliberately backed. Cortex is present on the distal side and there is a recessed flaw on the ventral surface. The flint has light patination.

The flake are broad and squat - originally being oval in plan but they are now both D shaped; in cross section they are broadly sub-rectangular. The flint flakes are well preserved - evidence for retouch or secondary working can be seen along the curved external edges of both the flakes. A fragment of a snapped knapped flint knife blade of later Neolithic or early Bronze Age date. The knife is formed from a relatively narrow blade of mid brown coloured flint. It is reworked around the marginal edge of the dorsal face. The ventral face is not worked. In plan the knife fragment is broadly D shaped and in cross section it is a similar sub-oval shape. The working reworking and retouch on the dorsal face is detailed and well applied; it is most heavily applied around the edges with small rounded regular flakes being removed; this flaking is very compact and neat being achi…
