Record ID: WAW-32A73C
Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Mesolithic to Neolithic (-8,300 to -2100) debitage: Primary flint flake with a vertical, slender, scar on the dorsal surface alongside a strip of cortex. The ventral surface has conchoidal ripples, but the distal end is truncated but perhaps more recently and not intentionally. The proximal is also truncated, therefore the bulb of person is missing. The flint is a mottled dark grey colour with patina just starting to develop on the ventral and dorsal surfaces. 21.87mm long, 15.83mm wide and weighs 1.59g. The flake probably dates from the Mesolithic to Neolithic period.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Neolithic to early Bronze Age (c. 4000 to 1000BC) scraper: The scraper appears to be knapped from a tertiary flake which is sub oval. The dorsal surface has multiple scars on the surface and some recent damage. The distal end has re-touch scars which are sub-parallel, are invasive and abrupt. The ventral surface has a bulb of percussion, and conchoidal ripples. The bulb of percussion has also been partly removed by a flake. The scraper is knapped from flint which is a mottled mid brown colour and has since developed a mottled white and grey patina. The scraper, measures 23.08mm long, …

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Mesolithic to early Bronze Age (c. 9000 to 1000BC) debitage: The debitage is similar to a core, but is probably a reused piece of debitage as one small face has cortex remaining. The other faces reveal a mottled blue to white patina. In plan the 'chunk' is sub-square and the surface has multiple scars at differing angles and it may have been truncated through damage. The item, measures 27.05mm tall, 27.13mm wide and 17.48mm thick. It weighs 19.14g. The debitage probably dates to the Mesolithic to early Bronze Age periods, c. 9000 to 1000BC.

Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Probable Mesolithic to early Bronze Age (8000 - 1000BC) retouched flake: The flint flake is knapped from a brown flint which has a strap of grey patina on the side edge. The ventral surface has a large bulb or percussion and slight conchoidal ripples. The dorsal surface has a negative scar. The distal end has a small curved notch which has been formed by re-touch. The flake measures 18.66mm long, 23.56mm wide, 6.25mm thick and weighs 2.33g. Retouched flakes are difficult to date as they are present throughout prehistory. Thus, a wide date range for this piece is suggested.
