A complete penny of Edward III - most probably from the 3rd 'florin' coinage - 1344-51.
The penny is well worn and crumpled. The coin is double struck. The first strike was off flan as I can make out the inner edge of the first legend outside of the second legend. The only descernable part of the legend is DVS followed by a single saltire stop. Only one lock of hair is descernable in the portrait.
On the reverse I can make out RACI C in the legend, and a quatre foil at the centre of the cross. Making this an Archiepiscopal issue from York.
