A Post Medieval cast copper alloy weight dating to circa (AD 1625 - 1649). The weight is circular in plan. The upper surface has a lipped rim and two fine low-relief concentric rings in the centre. Within the concentric rings is a centrally placed circular incision. At the centre of the front face of the weight there is a circular indentation which is where the maker would have shaved the weight to make it the correct weight. At the 6 o'clock position there is the Founders Company mark of a ewer which was stamped on approved weights. At the 11 o'clock position there is the royal ciphe…

Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval date (1300 - 1550). The weight is sub-cylindrical being oval in plan and cross section. A single cast hole extends through the middle of the weight and a copper alloy wire (diameter 2.2mm) is fixed into it; it is likely that this was used to suspend the weight and aided safe-keeping and storage. The weight is undecorated although the external surface is covered in knife marks and cuts. It is a mid grey colour with an abraded and corroded patina that covers all surfaces. Similar weights have been dated to both the Roman and the medie…

A complete, cast lead alloy, weight of post medieval date. The weight is flat and broadly circular in plan. It has an abraded , irregular rim, which is most prominent on the top side. The irregular nature of the rim is probably due to movement in the plough soil. On both sides of the weight is a central indentation. The only markings are four irregularly spaced, incised ringlets on one half of the top side. The weight has a yellow grey patina all over. The maximum diameter of the weight is 30.5mm, and its maximum thickness, at the rim, is 5.4mm. It weighs 23.95g ( 0.845oz).
