A crude lead weight. This flat weight is lozenge shaped in plan. The weight has no decoration or marks. The tip of one corner is slightly thicker on the front side. The weight has an off-white patina all over, apart from where recent abrasion has occurred.

An incomplete cast lead weight or steel yard weight.
The weight is sub-circular in plan. The top half is conical with the remains of an iron stud projecting from its apex, the bottom half is a shallow dome and there is a prononced lip where the two halves join. It is possible that the weight was suspended by this iron stud which is incomplete. The weight is a white to cream colour with a relatively even, but slightly corroded and abraded, patina that covers all surfaces.
The small size and the conical nature suggest it was to be used with a steelyard and therefore be Roman in dat…
