A cast lead or lead alloy weight or possibly a large uniface token of probable Medieval or post medieval date (1200-1650 AD). The weight is broadly circular in plan and regular in cross section. The upper face is decorated with an irregular saltire cross which is itself divided by another horizontal cast bar. The upper quarter is pierced with an irregular shaped oval hole. The reverse is relatively flat, it possibly has a further cast design within a small oval panel on one edge. It consists of a small cylindrial weight, with a concavity in the upper most surface. The base is flat. It has a diameter of 14.2mm and is 9.9mm tall. It weighs 13.1 grams / 0.46 oz. It probably was originally 0.5 oz in weight, but has lost some weight due to abrasion suffered by being in the plough soil. A cast lead or lead alloy weight of unknown date possibly Roman (100-400 AD) although more likely to be of medieval date (1300 - 1550). The weight is irregular being broadly sub-oval in plan and D shaped in cross section, with one flat face and one curved or domed face. Through the upper edge a circular projection has been cut, clear knife marks can be seen within the conical hole suggesting that the weight has either been augmented or was originally crude.
