A cast lead or lead alloy weight of unknown date possibly Roman (100-400 AD) although more likely to be of medieval date (1300 - 1550). The weight is irregular being broadly sub-oval in plan and D shaped in cross section, with one flat face and one curved or domed face. Through the upper edge a circular projection has been cut, clear knife marks can be seen within the conical hole suggesting that the weight has either been augmented or was originally crude. The exterior surface is uneven and abraded; there is no evidence of cast or applied decoration. An irregular cast hole is present piercing the weight from top to bottom, it is filled with the remains of an iron rod, which presumably was looped and aided the safe keeping of the weight. Cast lead alloy weight with integrally cast loop of probable medieval or post medieval date (1250 - 1700). The weight is broadly sub-rectangular in both plan and cross section. The loop is complete and the whole is somewhat elliptical probably through wear (diameter 3.7mm). Along one edge of the weight a clear seam is present; when the base is viewed it is clear that this weight has been formed by rolling thick sheet and then piercing the top.
