An incomplete lead-alloy steelyard weight of Roman date, c.AD 43 - 410. The weight is bi-conical in form and circular in cross section and has a slightly faceted rough surface. It has no obvious signs of suspension, as one end has broken away, possibly containing the suspension loop. The weight is showing signs of cracking and delamination, particularly around the area that has sheared away. It has a mixed grey to creamy brown patina
The length of the weight is: 28.1mm Diameter: 35.6mm Weight: 118gms

A complete lead alloy weight of probable later post medieval date. The weight is circular in plan and the upper surface is decorated with a relatively simplistic design. The upper surface has a raised rim whose internal edge is serrated with incised triangular marks. The internal field is decorated with an incised design depicting a female figure wearing a smock like dress and pointed hat, holding a yoke across their shoulder from which are suspended two pales - one either side. It is possible that there are two birds sat / perched on the yoke but details are lost due to wear and condition. The reverse face is plain and undecorated and the entire piece has a mid grey to cream grey coloured surface patina. A direct parallel has not been found and it is possible that this may in-fact be a mould or matrix for producing a seal on something like butter. Although the choice of metal for this would seem strange. It is equally possible that it could be a counter seal matrix or an elaborate trade weight (given the production in lead).
Diameter: 39.3mm , thickness: 7.5mm, weight: 63.62 grams (2.25oz or 982.4 grains)

Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval date (1200-1500 AD). The weight is broadly circular in plan and domed / D shaped in cross section. The upper and lower faces are relatively flat and are undecorated. The sides are faceted making the front face seem domed. The underside of the weight is recessed with an uneven shallow dome. The weight is a mid-grey colour with an even, but slightly corroded and abraded patina which covers all surfaces. This weight is most likely to date from the later medieval period, although a direct parallel has not been found.
The weight measures 32.0mm in diameter and is 24.1mm high. It weighs 134.7 grams

Cast lead alloy weight with integrally cast loop of probable medieval or post medieval date (1250 - 1700). The weight is broken across its upper edge and the top part is now lost. What remains is broadly sub-rectangular in both plan and cross section. The weight is broken across the loop (diameter 2.4mm). There seems to be no decoration present. The weight is a mid grey cream colour with a good relatively unabraded patina. Where abrasion has occurred this has revealed the grey metal beneath. There is no evidence of corrosion products.
The weight measures 39.9mm length, 19.7mm wide, is 19.1mm thick and weights 78.19 grams (1207 grains, 2.76 ozs).

A cast lead alloy suspended weight of uncertain date. The crude weight has a flat base and a broadly round cross section which gradually tapers up to the narrow top where an iron loop suspension passed through its body. The stumps of the loop are present at either end. The weight is plain with an off white lead-oxide pationa. There are some rust stains at the top near the stumps of the iron loop.
Height 36mm.
Diameter 23mm - 26mm.

Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval date (1300 - 1550). The weight is sub-cylindrical being oval in plan and cross section; it is D shaped in profile. A single cast hole extends through the middle of the weight and is filled with a white coloured lead alloy corrosion product; it is likely that this was used to suspend the weight and aided safe-keeping and storage. The underside of the weight has an irregular recess within and the surface is uneven. The weight is undecorated although the external surface is covered in knife marks and cuts. It is a mid-grey colour with an abraded and corroded patina that covers all surfaces. Similar weights have been dated to both the Roman and the medieval periods. The context of this find would suggest the later.
The weight measures 32.3mm in high, 39.1mm width and is 38.8mm thick. It weighs 222.7 grams or 7.8 ozs. As such it may have been used as a 8 oz or 1/2 lb weight.

Cast copper alloy weight of post-medieval date (1500-1850). The weight is part of a larger group of stacking weights, having a wide and relatively thick raised edge on the upper face. The front and rear faces both have turned circles around a central hollow point; all of these concentric circles are regular and well formed. There are no stamped counter marks. The reverse face has a central recess filled with white lead alloy. The weight is a mid green colour with an abraded surface patina.
The weight measures 6.2mm thick, diameter of 32.5mm and weighs 24.83 grams (0.87 ozs).

Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval or post medieval date (1300 - 1800). The weight is sub-circular in plan and sub-triangular (conical) in cross section. There is no suspension loop. The weight is a mid-grey colour with an even patina that covers all surfaces. It has been marked and abraded in the soil; this has caused the weight to become asymmetrical. Similar standing weights have been dated to the medieval and post medieval periods. It is likely that the weight would have been used as a trade weight weighing four ounces - 1/4 lb.
The weight measures 31.0mm wide, 32.5mm thick and is 33.2mm high. It weighs 110.16 grams or 3.9ozs.

A cast lead weight of Roman to Post Medieval date (1 - 1650 AD), most probably Roman (AD50-350). The weight is broadly circular in plan and D shaped in cross section; it has been heavily eroded in the soil. The central hole is a an irregular oval shape and has been cast / set off centre; it has an internal diameter of 8.1mm. Both faces are plain and undecorated. The weight has a cream - white coloured surface patina. Weights are used for a long period of time and as such are very difficult to date precisely without other evidence (such as pottery).
The weight measures 19.6mm wide and 13.6mm thick, it is 13.5mm high and weighs 13.19 grams.
