Cast lead alloy weight with integrally cast loop of probable medieval or post medieval date (1250 – 1700). The weight is broadly sub-rectangular in both plan and cross section. The loop is broken, and what remains of the hole is elliptical probably through wear. Along one edge of the weight a clear seam is present, this does not seem to be part of the casting residue from a mould; instead it seems to have been deliberately cut into the surface of the metal having a distinct U shaped profile. One face seems to be both decorated and have an applied surface. The surface seems to be a co…

Cast copper alloy weight of post-medieval date (1625-1685). The weight is part of a larger group of stacking weights, having a wide and relatively thick raised edge on the upper face. The front and rear faces both have turned circles around a central hollow point; all of these concentric circles are regular and well formed. The front face is further marked with a series of stamps - including a crowned C (for Charles I (1625-1649) or Charles II (1660-1685); the dagger or sword of the London Guildhall; and a faint ewer (coffee pot) of the Worshipful Company of Founders. A complete, cast lead alloy, weight of post medieval date. The weight is flat and broadly circular in plan. It has an abraded , irregular rim, which is most prominent on the top side. The irregular nature of the rim is probably due to movement in the plough soil. On both sides of the weight is a central indentation. The only markings are four irregularly spaced, incised ringlets on one half of the top side. The weight has a yellow grey patina all over. The maximum diameter of the weight is 30.5mm, and its maximum thickness, at the rim, is 5.4mm. It weighs 23.95g ( 0.845oz).

Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable Medieval date (1200-1500 AD). The weight is broadly circular in plan and regular in cross section. The upper face is relatively flat and has a single irregular pierced hole through the centre probably originally to hold a wire or cord for safekeeping. The weight is a mid cream grey colour with an even, but slightly corroded and abraded, patina which covers all surfaces. The weight has been marked by movement in the ploughsoil; however some of the marks are very regular possibly suggesting deliberate marking. This weight is most likely to date…

Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval date (1200 - 1550). The weight is sub-cylindrical (egg shaped) being oval in plan and cross section. A small copper alloy wire loop is imbedded in the top of the weight it is 4.8mm high, 1.7mm diameter. The hole has a diameter 4.2mm and a clear U shaped groove is present in the top of the weight to enable a cord or wire to be fitted through the loop. This loop was used to suspend the weight using cord or wire and aided safe-keeping and storage. The weight is undecorated. It is a mid grey colour with an abraded and corroded patina tha…

A cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable Medieval date (1200-1500 AD). The weight is broadly circular in plan and regular in cross section. The reverse face is flat and undecorated. The weight is a mid cream grey colour with an even, but slightly corroded and abraded, patina which covers all surfaces. This weight is most likely to date from the later medieval period, although a direct parallel has not b…
