Medieval decorated lead weight with heraldic device of 13th or 14th century date, possibly a quarter-pound Troy weight
The weight is of shield-shaped form (44.5mm long and 34.3mm wide) and appears to be complete, weighing 126.4g. The integral base has a border (4 -5mm wide and 7mm thick) decorated with raised pellets at each side and with two trefoil devices on the upper edge. There is a raised inner shield-shaped device (14.4mm thick). At the centre of the border, cutting the top edge of the raised shield is a rectangular slot, which may have penetrated to the base. The central shield (33.7mm long and 23.9mm wide) is decorated, probably with a lion rampant in cast relief. The head of the lion is depicted with an unusual long snout.
The weight of 126.4grams is a little heavy but proudly corresponds to quarter-pound weights and is close to the 16 ounce Mercantile and Avoirdupois systems (116.6g and 113.4g respectively) but is closest to a quarter pound under the English Troy (124.4g). Shield-shaped weight have been excavated in London (Egan 1998, p. 320, nos. 1031-2) from mid to late 14th century contexts. One of the London weights is crudely decorated with a crowned lion rampant and probably corresponds with a sixteenth avoirdupois ounce. The London weight with the rampant lion has a rectangular slot, interpreted for aiding carrying and the lion may have suggested a remote official authority to the weight (ibid, p. 320-2).

A complete cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval date (1300 - 1550). The weight is broadly oval (sub-rectangular with tapering sides terminating in blunt points) in plan and cross section. On the upper point is an integral cast suspension loop which would have been circular in plan and oval in cross section but is distorted, probably from plough damage. The perforation / hole through the centre is also oval and again distorted. The body of the weight has a large central rib which extends from the upper edge to the base. The weight seems to be relatively undecorated. The weight measures 69.8mm in length, 18.1mm width and is 15.1mm thick. It weighs 93.07 grams The weight is a mid grey white colour with an even patina that covers all surfaces. The weight has been marked and abraded in the ploughsoil soil. Similar weights are recorded as being associated with fishing in the medieval period cf: CBAResearch Report No 74 at - The Archaeology of Medieval Fishing Tackle

Perforated stone weight of uncertain date possibly medieval
The weight is of irregular rectangular form (93.9mm long, 66.6mm wide and weighing 150.5g), of variable thickness (with a maximum thickness of 19.5mm) and is made from a coarse-grained sandstone. The top edge and one of the side edges appear to be moderately rounded and are likely to be unmodified, while the other two edges are irregular and probably trimmed to the desired shape. The perforation is circular (10.6mm diameter) and is wider at one face, but appears to have been drilled rather than pecked. One face (convex) is yellow grey with traces of green algae, while the opposite face is pale-grey.
The perforated stone has few diagnostic features making dating and identification difficult. The river context for the find suggests its likely use in fishing, perhaps on a net or as a basket sinker

Solid circular lead weight of probable medieval or post medieval date. It has a considerable degree of wear on both faces- on one a projecting rim is apparent and the surface is slightly dished / concave. The weight is a mid cream - grey colour. It measures 35.72mm in diameter and is 9.2mm thick; it weighs 64.61g.

A lead weight, likely dating to the post medieval period. The weight is cylindrical in plan. This surface expands from the top downwards, on the top surface is a hole going on to the object. The object has some abrasion possessing two thin and long cuts across the surfaces sides and a scarred surface which has been created by wear. The object measures 46.43mm high, has a diameter of 19.30 and weighs 100.00g.

A lead weight, likely dating to the post medieval period. The weight is roughly cylindrical in plan. This surface expands from the top downwards, on the top surface is a hole going on to the object. The object has a great deal of abrasion and as a consequence the shape is deformed. The object measures 34.84mm high, has a length of 20.26, a width of 17.16 and weighs 86.6g.

Lead weight, probably of post-medieval date (c. AD 1500 - 1800). The objects upper face is concave and roundly shaped in the body with a D-shaped section, and a rectangular extension at one end, presumably for suspension. The other face is flat with some intrusion from the extension along the surface. The weight is dark grey in colour with a white patina. It is 21.59mm in length and 14.58mm thick. It weighs 24.4g.

Cast copper alloy weight of post-medieval date (1588-1603). The weight is part of a larger group of stacking weights, having a wide and relatively thick raised edge on the upper face. It measures 4.4mm thick, diameter of 36.6mm and weighs 24.9 grams (0.88 ozs or 384.6 grains). The front and rear faces both have turned circles around a central hollow point; all of these concentric circles are regular and well formed. At the centre of the front face is a stamp of a crown which is within a circle. The reverse face has a small circular depression at the centre and the rest of face is unclear due to wear. The weight is a mid green colour with a well preserved polished patina. Both faces have been scratched, although many of these are patinated suggesting that the damage is pre-deposition. Other abrasion especially around the edges is present and these are likely to be caused by movement in the soil. The weight is a 1/2 oz weight however due to soil erosion now weighs roughly 10% less.
The weight measures: 5.22mm thick, 23.15mm in diameter and weigh 12.99 grams.

A cast lead alloy weight, most likely of Post Medieval in date. This weight is circular in shape. The obverse face of the disc is roughly flat and undecorated. The reverse however contains a large casting sprue which was never removed, meaning this weight was never finished; the general surface is also uneven.
