Cast lead alloy weight, or possible spindle whorl of unknown date probably later medieval 1300-1600 AD. The weight is sub-circular in plan and D shaped in profile; in cross section it is an irregular rectangle. Through the centre is a sub-circular hole (diameter: 8.7mm). There is no sign of decoration and the ring is a mid grey colour with an even, but powdery corrosion. Similar weights have been dated to both the Roman and the Medieval periods however it is most likely that this is of medieval date, probably for use as a net or line weight. The weight measures 24.9mm diameter, is 1…

A cast lead alloy weight of probable Roman or Medieval date 100 -1650 AD. The weight is an irregular conical shape with the base being an irregular circular shape and the apex an irregular dome. The weight is undecorated, although it has a series of possible marks on the outer surface these are distorted by laminating corrosion patina. The weight is pierced at the apex by an irregular slanting hole which has possibly cast rather than drilled: the hole has a diameter of 4.9mm. Without other artefacts from the same context it is difficult to date the artefact; due to the variation in fi…

A plain, cast lead weight, of probable Post Medieval date. This weight has suffered a couple of heavy plough strikes which have gouged and mishaped it. Originally it was conical in shape with a large central piercing. It has a yellow-white patina, and is grey in colour where abrasion and strikes have occurred. It is 14.5 mm high and has a maximum diameter 26.8mm (although probably less before it was damaged). It weighs 36.8g.

A complete, cast, lead alloy weight, probably Post Medieval in date, although these are difficult to date and therefore a broader Roman - Post Medieval date range is suggested. This plain weight has a squat, cylindrical shape. There is a small central piercing. It is mostly grey over its smooth surface, with a yellow cream patina in its crevices. There is no obvious decoration or symbols on the surfaces. It's maximum diameter is 25.9mm, and it is 14.9mm high. It weighs 40.8g. The central piercing's diameter is 4.8mm.

A complete, cast, lead alloy weight, probably Post Medieval in date but due to the lack of other dating may date from the Roman - Post Medieval periods. This crudely shaped weight has a flat base, cylidrical body and domed top. It is sub-circular in plan. There is a central piercing. The surface is very abraded, with a yellow white patina in the unworn areas, and grey yellow colour where abrasion has occurred. There is no obvious decoration or symbols on the well worn surface. It's maximum diameter is 30.4mm, and it is 16.1mm high. It weighs 65.7g. The central piercing's diameter …

A cast lead weight of post medieval date. The unmarked weight is broadly flat and broadly circular in plan. It has a pronounced and battered, irregular rim, which is most prominent on the top side. The irregular nature of the rim is probably due to knocks in the plough soil, which have also slighlty bent the weight and left a couple of gouges. The weight has a yellow grey patina all over. The maximum diameter of the weight is51.0mm, and its maximum thickness, from the rim, is 11.2mm. It weighs 139.6g (4.92 oz).

An incomplete cast lead weight or steel yard weight. The weight is sub-circular in plan. The top half is conical with the remains of an iron stud projecting from its apex, the bottom half is a shallow dome and there is a prononced lip where the two halves join. It is possible that the weight was suspended by this iron stud which is incomplete. The weight is a white to cream colour with a relatively even, but slightly corroded and abraded, patina that covers all surfaces. The small size and the conical nature suggest it was to be used with a steelyard and therefore be Roman in dat…
