A complete cast and possibly lathe-turned copper alloy trade weight issued in the reign of James I or II. The weight is circular in plan and the edge, on the upper surface forms a wide lip. Within the lip there is two concentric low-relief rings. In the field outside the rings and between the lip there are 4 stamped symbols. Firstly the sword of St Paul (representing the City) at 11 o’ clock, the Founder Company’s mark (an ewer) at 6 o’ clock and the royal cipher (a crown above the monarch’s initial: I) at 10 o’ clock and an ‘A’ at 1 o’clock representing the Averdepois …

It has a relatively uniform thickness and there is no extant decoration on either the obverse or the reverse. A probable post medieval lead trade weight or net weight dating to circa AD 1500-1700.  The object is broadly oval in plan and flat in profile with an integral circular perforation hole. The weight has a cream coloured surface patina. The object has abraded edges. A parallel can be found on the PAS database CORN-E790D6, discovered in Cornwall.  The object has a height of 23.1 mm and a width of 24 mm. The thickness is 4.8 mm. It weighs 9.3 grams.
