Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval or post medieval date (1300 - 1800). The weight is sub-circular in plan and sub-triangular (conical) in cross section. There is no suspension loop. The weight is a mid-grey colour with an even patina that covers all surfaces. It has been marked and abraded in the soil; this has caused the weight to become asymmetrical. Similar standing weights have been dated to the medieval and post medieval periods. It is likely that the weight would have been used as a trade weight weighing four ounces - 1/4 lb. Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable later Medieval or Post Medieval date (1350 - 1650). The weight is broadly circular in plan and rectangular in cross section. The edges around the front face are faceted; one side is damaged due to an old and heavily abraded break. The design on the front consists of a concentric pattern with an irregular star formed from a vertical and saltire cross placed at the centre. This is enclosed by a single raised ring which in turn is enclosed by a further ring with a series of irregular triangles on its inner edge (forming a tooth like pattern). T…

An incomplete, cast lead weight with iron hook or loop, of unknown date. This large weight has a flat top and bottom, and is sub-oval in cross-section, tapering out from bottom to top. It has suffered much abrasion due to its size, which may account for it only having one area of creamy patina (on its top) and it being mishaped. Off centre in the top is the stub of an iron hook or loop, which is oval in cross-section (8.0mm by 10.5mm) The weight was found about 15 metres from a corner of the field marked as a hop yard on the 1841 tithe map. Cast lead alloy weight of unknown date probably later post medieval or modern 1600-1800 AD. The weight is an irregular cylinder being sub-circular in plan and rectangular in profile. There is no sign of decoration and the weight is a mid grey colour with an even, but powdery corrosion. From the size and shape of the weight it seems likely that it was cast within a copper alloy thimble, possibly one made post 1700. The weight measures 16.3mm high, 15.3mm diameter and weighs 23.36 grams.

A cast lead weight of post medieval date. The unmarked weight is broadly flat and broadly circular in plan. It has a pronounced and battered, irregular rim, which is most prominent on the top side. A cast copper alloy weight of probable late post-medieval or modern date (1700-1800). The weight is part of a larger group of stacking weights, having a wide and relatively thick raised edge on the upper face. The front and rear faces both have turned circles around a central hollow point on the obverse and a raised boss on the reverse; all of these concentric circles are regular and well formed. Around the edge of the front face are a series of stamped marks, these are corroded but relatively legible: they consist if the initial A (probably for Queen Anne), a poorly defined sword (th…

A cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable Medieval date (1200-1500 AD). The weight is broadly circular in plan and regular in cross section. The reverse face is flat and undecorated. The weight is a mid cream grey colour with an even, but slightly corroded and abraded, patina which covers all surfaces. The hole has a diameter 4.2mm and a clear U shaped groove is present in the top of the weight to enable a cord or wire to be fitted through the loop.
