Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable late Medieval or Post Medieval date (1350 - 1700). The weight is sub-circular in plan and sub-rectangular in profile. The sides are irregular and taper slightly from the base. The weight is undecorated, although there are a number of scratches present on all surfaces. These are most likely to have been caused by movement in the ploughsoil. The weight is a mid grey colour with a relatively even patina that covers all surfaces. It is possible that the weight may have been burnt at one point. A direct parallel for this weight has not been found. …

Through the centre of the weight is a length of iron wire which has snapped at the top of the weight. It is likely that this wire would have been looped to aid safe-keeping and storage. A small copper alloy wire loop is imbedded in the top of the weight it is 4.8mm high, 1.7mm diameter. The hole has a diameter 4.2mm and a clear U shaped groove is present in the top of the weight to enable a cord or wire to be fitted through the loop.
