A 17th-century post-medieval copper-alloy quarter ounce trade weight, dating from the reign of Charles I or II (1625-1685).
The pan weight is formed of a thick disc. On the front there is a raised circumferential rim with an incuse ring at the centre, surrounded by fine circumferential turning marks. There are three stamped marks on the front: a crowned letter 'C' (at 11 o'clock), which is the royal cypher; The dagger of St. Paul (at 1 'clock), for London, the place of its manufacture; a ewer (at 6 o'clock), for the Founders Company of London. The ewer has not been struck correctly, such that only the base is present.
The weight has a dark green patina. The flat underside has been heavily filed. There is some abrasion to the rim such that it is underweight.
The weight is 19.3 mm in diameter and 4.0 mm thick; it weighs 6.22 g (0.22 oz).

A late or more probably post Medieval pan weight cast in lead, This crude 1 ounze weight is a flat cylinder in shape, with an irregualr raised lip around the perimeter on both sides. The weight is plain with no surface stamps or decoration. It has a cream patina coloured surface patina. Similar stacking weights often in copper alloy are known from the Post Medieval period (Henry VII and later).
The weight weighs 30.5grams, which is 1.08 Ounces. It has a maximum diameter of 31mm, and a maximum thickness, at the rim, of 6mm.

Cast lead or lead alloy line weight of Roman to Post Medieval date (1 - 1650 AD). The weight is sub-circular in plan. The central hole is broadly circular and has been cast / set slightly off centre. The diameter of the hole measures 5.6mm x 4.2mm. The artefact is a mid-light grey cream colour with an even broken patina. It has also been abraded and rolled in the plough soil and the edges have been damaged. These weights are used for a long period of time and have multiple functions including holding down lines and nets (for rabbiting - for example).
The weight measures 18.7mm diameter, is 23.7mm long. It weighs 38.59 grams.

A cast lead alloy weight or possibly a stopper of uncertain age; most probably later medieval or post medieval (1200-1800). The weight is broadly square shaped in plan with a faceted and waisted profile. From the lower edge a square sectioned project extends; this projection is not pierced. The upper surface is slightly domed and heavily abraded; a series of geometric marks are present but these could be as a result of movement in the ploughsoil. The weight is a mid grey white colour with a soft powdery surface corrosion. The exact nature of the function of this artefact is uncertain - the waisted nature of the piece is reminiscent of vessel repairs / pot mends; the projection on the top is similar to that seen on weights - it is also interesting to note that teh find weighs almost 1/4 of a pound.
The find has been recorded due to its close proximity to other finds of historic date.
The artefact measures 29.5mm length, 29.9mm width; it is 26.1mm thick and weighs 111.95 grams (3.98 ounces / 1/4 lb)

A large, complete copper alloy trade weight dating to the post-medieval period, to the reign of William and Mary (AD 1689-1694). The weight is circular in shape with a raised lip and concentric circles on the front face. Within are several control stamps; a crowned W over M at c. 11 o'clock, a sword for St Paul's (London) at 12 o'clock, a letter A for avoirdupois at 1 o'clock and an ewer for the London Founders' Company at 5 o'clock. The weight weighs 3.720 ounces (105.4 grams), just under a quarter of a pound. Unusually the reverse of this weight appears to have a separate plug in the centre as there is a gap around its circumference; this may be damage although this type of damage has not been seen on other examples.

A lead alloy weight or possible spindle whorl of Roman to Post Medieval date (AD1 - 1650). In plan the object is semi-circular. The object has a central semi-circular perforation which measures 4.10mm in width. It is possible the object was once circular and only half of the object is now remaining. The upper surface is decorated with a series of linear incisions. The reverse surface of the object is un-decorated. The object has a cream coloured patina across all surfaces. Spindle whorls and weights have been used for a long period of time and are therefore very difficult to date precisely without other evidence (such as pottery). Weights with a similar diameter and perforation have been classified as flat weights for bullion (Biggs and Withers 2000: 23-26).
The object measures 44.12mm in diameter, is 7.7mm thick and weighs 37.5 grams.

Possible cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable Medieval date (1300 - 1550). The weight is irregular in plan being a wasted cylindrical shape (dumb bell) with faceted sides. Both terminals are relatively flat and the weight can easily be stood and balanced on either end. The weight is undecorated although it does have a number of deeply incised lines on either terminal. It is a mid grey colour with an even patina that covers all surfaces. The weight has been marked and abraded in the ploughsoil soil which has caused it to become asymmetrical. A direct parallel for this weight has not been found. It is most likely to date from the medieval period.
The weight measures 34.6mm in length, has a maximum diameter of 27.9mm and minimum of 30.4 and weighs 237 grams or 8ozs (1/2 Lb)

Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval date (1200 - 1400). The weight is sub-circular in plan and rectangular in cross section. The front and rear faces are undecorated. A small pierced hole is present on one edge of the weight (diameter 2.7mm); the edge at this point is waisted / deliberately thinned. The weight is a mid grey colour with an even but abraded patina that covers all surfaces. It has been marked and abraded in the soil; this has caused the weight to become slightly asymmetrical. Similar weights have been dated to the medieval period and it is suggested that they were used as pan weights by traders / merchants etc.
The weight measures 36.5mm in diameter and is 7.9mm thick; it weighs 73.6 grams or 2.6ozs.

A complete circular lead probable trade weight of possible Post-Medieval date, circa 17th - 18th centuries. The weight has flat surfaces on the upper and lower faces. The obverse face has a stamped mark which could represent either 'IB' for the weight or may be an official stamp that represent the initials of an authority or establishment. The stamp is situated slightly off centre. The reverse does not have a stamp or decoration. The weight is a mid-cream to brown colour with a worn surface.
Biggs and Withers (2000) suggest weights with stamped marks date from 15th to 18th centuries, and that local authorities continued to stamp weights in the 17th and 18th century. This trade weight is approximately half a pound on the averdepois weight system (225 grams). The purpose of the official stamp was to give the weight validity, Bigg and Withers (2000).
This weight measures 44.11mm in diameter, 17mm in thickness, 225g in weight.

A conical lead alloy standing weight of probable Medieval to Post-Medieval date, circa (AD 1300 - 1700). The apex is a rounded knop and measures 9.38mm in diameter. There is a centrally placed rectangular indentation on the upper surface of the apex, this measures 5.14 mm in length. The sides of the weight flare to the rounded flat base with a diameter measuring 23.8mm. The outer faces of the weight are decorated with four vertical ribs that are fairly evenly spaced around the circumference of the weight. On one side there is the design of a triangle, comprised of a moulded raised rib. The weight has a well-developed cream coloured patina across all surfaces. The weight is 1 ¼ oz. This example is a similar weight to (HESH-275213) which is suggested as dating to the Medieval Period.
The weight stands at 18.3mm in height with a base diameter of (max) 23.8mm and weighs 35.57 grams or (547 grains or 1.25 ozs).

Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable Medieval date (1200-1700 AD). The weight is broadly circular in plan and domed (D shaped) in cross section. The upper face is domed and has a small single irregular pierced hole (9.1mm diameter) through the centre. The weight is a mid grey colour with an even, but slightly corroded and abraded, patina which covers all surfaces. The weight has been marked by movement in the ploughsoil.
