The object is broadly oval in plan and flat in profile with an integral circular perforation hole. The weight has a cream coloured surface patina. The object has abraded edges. A parallel can be found on the PAS database CORN-E790D6, discovered in Cornwall.
The object has a height of 23.1 mm and a width of 24 mm. The thickness is 4.8 mm. It weighs 9.3 grams. 3636150017004WAW2023-09-12T10:32:40Z2023-10-25T22:30:29Z9.323.1PAS65003038001B084.8241251414142638904334138904County of HerefordshireCounty of HerefordshireActon BeauchampSO694952.13841969-2.45436421bands.shops.handy10WAW-03087BLead Alloy11095CompletePOST MEDIEVALx41047POST MEDIEVALx41047x41047Metal detectorReturned to finder1128604_653988c401c17.jpg1246731images/vallnatt/West MidlandsCertain12023-10-25T21:30:29.712Zfinds-11057061105706WAW-6AFAC6WEIGHTPOST MEDIEVALA lead alloy weight of probably Medieval to Post Medieval date (c. AD 1100-1800).
The object is discoid with a raised rim around the edge of the obverse. There are two prominent grooves in the rim, one at around 12 o'clock (8.42mm long, 2.34mm wide) and one at 7 o'clock (9.02mm long, 1.85mm wide). There is a raised, separate trapezoidal lead alloy section (18.56mm long, 10.38mm wide) that is attached to the obverse via a rusted rivet or nail at an oblique angle near the centre from 10 o'clock to 12 o'clock. In the centre, there is a single, transverse engraved line, potentially the Roman numeral I, whilst there are the remains of a capital 'R' around 6 o'clock. There are two parallel, curved lines closer to the raised rim going from around 6 o'clock to 12 o'clock. The reverse has a prominent central groove running from around 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock on the reverse, being much deeper at 3 o'clock and reducing in depth until the end. There is also another prominent groove running from around 2 o'clock to 3 o'clock on the outside edge of the weight.
The object weighs c. 445g, which is 0.98 Avoirdupois pounds or 1.19 Troy pounds. With the inscribed Roman numeral I on the weight, it is thus potentially likely that this was meant to be a 1 Avoirdupois pound weight.

AD 1650-1800).
The weight is sub-rectangular in plan, profile, and cross section. On the top of the weight, there is a sub-rectangular recess where the left and right hand edges are raised and in the centre there is a sub-oval lug (26.19mm long, 22.75mm wide). On the reverse, there are two raised sections on both the left and right hand side that both curve inwards, creating a recess that has larger, trapezoidal sections at the top and the bottom of the weight connected by a narrower sub-rectangular section. The object has a cream coloured patina.
There are potentially similar weights recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme, including NLM-E0F337, NLM-9FD194, and NLM-9CC8C7. These are all pump seal weights of Post Medieval date c. AD 1650-1950. These would have been used in manually operated water pumps. The object weighs 515g or 1.14 Avoirdupois pounds or 1.38 Troy pounds.

The weight is discoidal, its upper side is concave, has a raised rim, and a central circular indentation which is 12.8mm in diameter. Around this circle there are four mostly well-defined stamp marks and a very faint one: 1) a crowned CR monogram (the R is barely discernible), which marks this weight as having been made during Charles’ reign, 2) a sword hilt, 3) the letter A, for the avoirdupois system, 4) an unclear stamp, shaped like a D, possibly the tip of the sword whose hilt can be seen on the opposite side, and 5) probably an ewer. The reverse has five circular indentations, one inside the other, the largest of which is 16mm in diameter, and a central mound (5.5mm in diameter) with a small, voided centre. The edges of the three outermost circles vaguely resemble petals. The reverse also has two groups of linear indentations that intercept each other by the edge the circle.
The weight now weighs 25.22g, equivalent to 0.8896 ounces, and would originally have been a one-ounce weight under the avoirdupois system.Trade weight3636162516854NMGWNMWPA 2022.44.22022-04-27T16:51:00Z2022-10-25T14:00:13Z25.22PAS6269666400137D31.95.8171411614142638904350238904County of HerefordshireCounty of HerefordshireCanon PyonSO464852.12765602-2.79023641bands.shops.handy10NMGW-7DDD84Copper alloy10627CastStampedCompletePOST MEDIEVALx41047POST MEDIEVALx41047x41047Metal detectorReturned to finder202244somethingelse.jpg1180409images/claracunha/West MidlandsCertain12022-10-25T13:00:13.806ZCounty of Herefordshire100Unitary AuthorityCast14.76POST MEDIEVAL1Metal detectorHESHFE7B66.jpg38904135481PMUnitary AuthorityCertain4HESH3890416.351800Eardislandx4104720County of Herefordshire110952019-10-09T16:42:27ZReturned to finderWest MidlandsCirca
A cast lead alloy circular ball (similar in size and shape to a musket ball) of probable post medieval 1600-1800 date. The ball has a circular shaped hole through its mid point (5.19mm in diameter) and has no sign of decoration, casting seam or casting spur. It is a light grey colour with a relatively thick surface patina. It is highly unlikely that the ball is from shot and instead is suggested to be from a line or net weight.
The ball measures: 16.35mm in diameter, 14.76mm high and weighs 20.0 grams

Cast copper alloy weight of post-medieval date (1588-1603). The weight is part of a larger group of stacking weights, having a wide and relatively thick raised edge on the upper face. It measures 4.4mm thick, diameter of 36.6mm and weighs 24.9 grams (0.88 ozs or 384.6 grains). The front and rear faces both have turned circles around a central hollow point; all of these concentric circles are regular and well formed. At the centre of the front face is a damaged image which is within a circle and adjacent, outside the circle is a crudely stamped / punched sword. Below this is a ewer stamp (these represent the City of London - sword - and the worshipful company of founders - coffee pot). The reverse face has a small circular depression at the centre and the rest of face is unclear due to wear. The weight is a mid green colour with a well preserved polished patina. Both faces have been scratched, although many of these are patinated suggesting that the damage is pre-deposition. Other abrasion especially around the edges is present and these are likely to be caused by movement in the soil. The weight is a 1/2 oz weight however due to soil erosion now weighs roughly 10% less.
The weight measures: 3.86mm thick, 27.77mm in diameter and weigh 11.0 grams.

A complete lead alloy weight of probable later post medieval date. The weight is circular in plan and the upper surface is decorated with a relatively simplistic design. The upper surface has a raised rim whose internal edge is serrated with incised triangular marks. The internal field is decorated with an incised design depicting a female figure wearing a smock like dress and pointed hat, holding a yoke across their shoulder from which are suspended two pales - one either side. It is possible that there are two birds sat / perched on the yoke but details are lost due to wear and condition. The reverse face is plain and undecorated and the entire piece has a mid grey to cream grey coloured surface patina. A direct parallel has not been found and it is possible that this may in-fact be a mould or matrix for producing a seal on something like butter. Although the choice of metal for this would seem strange. It is equally possible that it could be a counter seal matrix or an elaborate trade weight (given the production in lead).
Diameter: 39.3mm , thickness: 7.5mm, weight: 63.62 grams (2.25oz or 982.4 grains)

A 17th-century post-medieval copper-alloy quarter ounce trade weight, dating from the reign of Charles I or II (1625-1685).
The pan weight is formed of a thick disc. On the front there is a raised circumferential rim with an incuse ring at the centre, surrounded by fine circumferential turning marks. There are three stamped marks on the front: a crowned letter 'C' (at 11 o'clock), which is the royal cypher; The dagger of St. Paul (at 1 'clock), for London, the place of its manufacture; a ewer (at 6 o'clock), for the Founders Company of London. The ewer has not been struck correctly, such that only the base is present.
The weight has a dark green patina. The flat underside has been heavily filed. There is some abrasion to the rim such that it is underweight.
The weight is 19.3 mm in diameter and 4.0 mm thick; it weighs 6.22 g (0.22 oz).
