Rim sherd of a relatively thin walled coarseware pottery 'Severn Valley' vessel. The sherd dates to the Roman period (50 - 410), however, not enough of the sherd survives to be certain of the form or size and without this a more specific date is difficult. The rim has a swollen out-turned rim. The fabric is relatively soft with a number of angular and sub-angular quartz, grit and ironstone inclusions. The fabric also contains considerable inclusions of mica / sand. The fabric colour is a uniform mid orange colour. A suggested diameter of the rim is 22cm, and the sherd represent…

A cast copper alloy leg from a copper alloy vessel probably a skillet, cauldron or ewer of medieval date (1300 - 1500). The leg is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular (triangular with rounded corners) in cross section. The reverse of the leg is a flat surface, whereas the outer face of the leg is the apex of the triangular cross-section. A cast copper alloy fragment of a V shaped lug handle from a copper alloy cauldron of later medieval date (1300 - 1600). The handle is rectangular in plan tapering being a faceted cylindrical shape. An incomplete Roman copper-alloy looped handle escutcheon plate attachment for a vessel (c. AD 40-410). This escutcheon is cast being convex at the front and mostly concave at the rear. Viewed from the top it is curvilinear to accommodate the body of the copper-alloy vessel, to which it would have originally been soldered. The diameter of the vessel cannot be estimated it is slightly curved suggesting that the vessel was of significant (cauldron) size. The moulded design at the front is integral with the plate and was cast in one piece. The single loop at the top of the plate is offse…
