A sherd from the rim of a cermaic vessel - the sherd has been heavily over fired or possibly burnt. In form it most resembles Roman Black burnishedwares although the fabric is very course and similar to that of medieval cooking vessels being mica-rich and with significant amounts of rounded quartz inclusions. The internal rim of vessel is raised with a distinct curved projection which is emphasised by a circumferential incised groove.
