A fragment of handmade brick or similar ceramic building material. This is most likely to date to the Roman or Medieval period (50 - 410 AD or 1300 - 1500 AD). The fragment is relatively thick and irregular in plan. The fabric is a relatively hard fired earthenware with a number of small angular and sub-angular grit and quartz inclusions. It is also has large amounts of mica and organic material within it. The colour is an oxidised red on the exterior, and grey/black on the interior, which suggests differential firing. Five abraded fragments of handmade brick or similar ceramic building material. These are most likely to date to the Roman or Medieval period (50 - 400 AD or 1300 - 1500 AD). The sherds are all relatively thick and irregular in plan. The fabric is a relatively soft fired earthenware with a number of small angular and sub-angular grog, grit, and quartz a inclusions.
