A sherd from the rim of a cermaic vessel - the sherd has been heavily over fired or possibly burnt. In form it most resembles Roman Black burnishedwares although the fabric is very course and similar to that of medieval cooking vessels being mica-rich and with significant amounts of rounded quartz inclusions. The internal rim of vessel is raised with a distinct curved projection which is emphasised by a circumferential incised groove. A partial clay pipe of c1660-c1680. The artefact consists of the complete bowl, the foot and stump of the stem. The pipe is without makers mark and the only decoration is a faint roulette line beneath the rim of the bowl. The bowl opening as a 10mm internal diameter. The pipe is 55mm high when sat on its foot and 20mm wide, the curtailed length is 46mm. It weighs 12.4g

A partial rod handle from a glazed earthenware jug of Medieval date c1150-c1400. The fabric is a hard earthenware and is light grey in colour, with an oxidised light orange surface. On the outer edge is a green coloured glaze. There is one deliberate hollow puncture on the outer edge of the handle. 38mm high, 25mm in diameter. Weight 31g. A similar handle is HESH-6DB928.

The lower surface of the base is flat, and varies in thickness - it is realtively thin at the centre and thicker towards the external edge. The bottom of the vessel wall slopes outwards at an angle of about 80 degrees. The fabric is a hard red coloured oxidised ceramic weith frequent mica and irregular sized angular grains of quartz. In cross section the handle is curved, being a half oval on the outward facing side, and chamfered outwards either side of a wide central grove on the inside. It is 11mm thick and 24mm wide. The hard fabric is yellow buff with two types of inclusions: sparse mid grey black coloured grit and occassional fieldspar. The upper surface is glazed black with a yellow trailed slip applied in geometric swirls.The sherd is in good condition but abraded. The vessel body was 7mm thick.
