Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A secondary flake of light grey coloured debitage or segment implement of probable Mesolithic to Neolithic date (c. 10,000 - 2351 BC). The flake is rectangular and trapezoidal in section, but is perhaps too thick to be a blade. The distal end tapers at one corner and is broken. It measures 27.76mm in length, 11.72mm in width, 5.32mm thick and weighs 1.98grams. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar implement on Figure 46, No. 7. A Mesolithic tool on a bladelet; a microdenticulate. In plan the microdenticulate is a sub elongated rectangle and is trapezoidal in section. The dorsal surface has three main linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface has a shallow bulb of percussion and ripples. The distal end is rounded with re-touch on the edge. One lateral edge has fine notches along most of the length whose scars are visible on the dorsal surface. The other lateral edge also has fine notches with three larger notches. Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Mesolithic or early Neolithic flint blade. In plan the blade is an elongated sub-triangle and trapezoidal in section. The dorsal surface has three main linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface has ripples. The proximal end is broken, but this is not a recent break as the patina covers the edge. It measures 30.94mm long, 12.55mm wide, 5.76mm thick and weighs 1.6 grams. The flint is mottled pale brown/cream in colour due to its patination. The blade dates to the Mesolithic to early Neolithic periods (-8300 - -2900).

A Mesolithic or Neolithic flint blade: It is sub-rectangular in plan and is sub-triangular in section. The dorsal surface has two predominant vertical scars, with a slender third having been removed from one edge. This edge, at a later date has been re-touched as the patina has been removed, and a notch has been formed at the proximal end. It measures 31.93mm long, 11.98mm wide, 5.88mm thick and weighs 1.5g. The flint is mottled pale brown/grey. The blade dates to the Mesolithic to early Neolithic periods (-8300 - -2900).

A Mesolithic tool on a bladelet; probably a microdenticulate. In plan the microdenticulate is an elongated sub-triangle and trapezoidal in section. The dorsal surface has three main linear vertical scars, and the ventral surface has a shallow bulb of percussion and ripples. The distal end is obliquely angled and has re-touch on the edge. This re-touch has been applied at a late date to the manufacture of the blade as it removes the patina. Both lateral edges have very fine notches on most of the length. One lateral edge has a large single notch which has the negative scar visible on …

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: County of Herefordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Mesolithic or Neolithic flint secondary flake or blade. The flake is broken at both ends and based upon the difference in patina at the break this was apparently done in antiquity. In section the flake or blade is trapezoidal, and in plan it is almost square. The flake measures 9.83mm long, 12.47mm wide, 1.82mm wide and weighs 0.3 grams. As the length is shorter than the width of the object, the identification of it being a blade is uncertain, therefore described as a flake. It dates to the Mesolithic or Neolithic periods (-8300 - -2900).
