Cast copper alloy hooked strap fitting of probable medieval or post-medieval date (1400-1600). The strap fitting is sub-rectangular in plan and semi-circular (D shaped) in cross section. It measures 46.1mm in length, 10.9mm width and is 3.8mm thick. It weighs 5.49 grams. The fitting has been damaged at both terminals. What survives can be divided into two parts; the body and the hooked terminal. The body of the fitting is flared and sub-lentoid (an elongated tear-drop shape) in plan. The upper terminal has broken, but would probably have consisted of a small sub-ova…

It measures 56.8mm in length, 24.4mm width and is 3.5mm thick. It weighs 11.94 grams. The fitting can be divided into two parts, the body and the hooked terminal. The hooked terminal has been formed by bending the upper part back upon itself to form a U shaped hook. This is undecorated and measures 44.6mm length, 5.5mm width, and is 2.5mm thick. It tapers along its length and terminates in a sub-rounded point. The upper part …

It measures 50mm in length, 24mm width and is 5mm thick. It weighs 10.09 grams. The body of the fitting is symmetrical (broadly sub-rectangular) in plan; however there are two sub-rounded projections on the left hand edge. These projections are cast (suspension?) loops, they project 10mm from the body of the fitting and have a 5mm diameter pierced hole through them. The front of the fitting has been decorated with a n…

The object is an incomplete suspension loop, probably dating to the Medieval to Post Medieval period or fifteenth to seventeenth curies AD. The object is made of cast copper alloy. In plan the object comprises of a single sub-U-shaped piece of copper. Although the side arms of the object taper inwards towards one another, they are not joined together making the loop incomplete. Cast copper alloy strap fitting or harness mount / strap slider of probably Roman date (43-410 AD). The mount is oval (teardrop shaped) in plan with a domed / convex front face and a concave reverse. In profile the slider is D shaped. Extending from the reverse face is a rectangular shaped (staple like) loop with an irregular rectangular cross section. This loop would have attached the mount to the strap or belt. The loop seems to be cast in one piece; however, due to corrosion on the rear face it is impossible to verify this. There is no applied or incised decoration present on the ha…
