The remains of a copper alloy early Roman bronze coin. The fragment is irregular in plan and profile and seems to have been altered by severe uncontrolled heat, creating a metalic blob similar in patina to many early Roman coins; sesterti, dupondi or asses. Due to the distortion a direct parallel has not been found.

The coin has been deliberately cut into two parts with a pair of heavy duty pliers (or similar) probably in antiquity as the two parts have similar corrosion on them. Thee detail of the coin is lost and it is most likely to be post medieval (post 1650 in date). No comparisons have been found

Uni-faced cast lead token or possible bag seal of probable late medieval or post-medieval date (1250-1800). The upper face is decorated with a raised circular boss on which is a cast vertical cross contained within a raised circular band. In each angle of the cross is a single raised pellet. It is possible that outside the area defined by the central boss – further pellets or even inscription is positioned; however this has been abraded and is not well preserved. The reverse face is plain and undecorated. It is impossible to tell whether this was originally a bag seal as the edges ar…

Copper alloy (round) uniface coin weight for a gold Half Angel dated to the later medieval and post medieval periods post 1464 (1464 - 1642). The weight itself has been abraded in the plough soil and some of the obverse detail has been lost. This abrasion has also removed the metal from the coin weight causing it to weigh less than it originally did. The front face of the weight depicts the standing winged figure (St. Michael) with left leg straight and right leg bent, holding spear and spearing dragon (beneath figure) to the right hand side. St Michael is shown with a halo and spre…

Heavily worn and abraded silver coin from the later Tudor period - probably the reign of Elizabeth I. Much of the diagnostic information is lost, the inscription suggests an Elizabethan date, as does the remnant of the square shield. From the size of the coin I suggest it is probably a silver threepence.

Copper alloy square shaped coin weight dated to the post medieval period 1564-1604. The coin weight is one of a number known from Antwerp (hence the use of the hand on the reverse). The initials around the hand are indistinct but it is likely to be either Cornelius Janssen (CI) or Cornelius VerPoorte (CVP). In my opinion it is likely to be the former (CI). Both are recorded to the period 1564-1604. (Withers p60). Obverse: Standing female figure (probably a saint or maid) with an orb in left hand and crozier (crook) in left. Figure is enclosed within a circle of pellets. Reverse: Cent…
