Silver sixpence of Elizabeth I . Initial Mark: unknown. From the style of the shield on the reverse a date is suggested within the second coinage 1561-1582. A partial but very worn date above the shield also suggests a narrower range in the 1560's. Both faces (but particularly the revserse) are heavily scratched

A heavily clipped and polished silver coin, most probably struck during the reign of Elizabeth I as a sixpence. It has subsequently been clipped, using the circular band around the portrait / bust, to remove the inscriptions on both faces. The obverse is heavily polished removing all traces of the bust. The reverse face is partially polished, although part of the shield and the date 15[??] can be seen. The new size of the coin is similar to that of a half groat of Elizabeth - Charles I reigns.
