A silver half groat of James I (1603-1625). The coin was struck as part of the Second Issue coinage and dating between 1604-1619.
The coin is pierced from the reverse through to the obverseby a square shaped punch - the small amount of spall has not been trimmed - the hole is positioned at 3 o'clock and is placed neatly between the edge of the crowned thistle and teh inscription

The coin has been straightened, and shows signs of light clipping.
