Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Cornwall
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An iron object. The object is quite badly corroded and it is hard to discern what it may have been. However, it was found in the same area as an Iron Age linch pin, and is roughly the same size and shape as the linch pin's head. There is a possibility that this item also relates to an iron age chariot.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A circular copper-alloy stud dating to the late Medieval period. The disc, which is 30 mm in diameter, is decorated with two swirling motifs which emanate from a central perforation. This perforation evidently once held an iron pin, as there are ferrous corrosion products on the obverse and reverse of the disc. The disc concaves slightly on the reverse.

A lynch pin from a chariot which most probably dates to the late Iron Age. The shank of the pin (18 mm in diameter) which would have been inserted into the ends of the wheel shaft or axle is made of iron. The pin has a copper-alloy head which is circular in section This head is 27 mm in diameter where it joins the iron shank but tapers to 18.7 mm before expanding out into a terminal disc of 32.6 mm in diameter. The head of the lynch pin has two perforations shortly after it joins the iron shank. These may have been a means of securing the head to the shank. There is decoration on the …
