Copper alloy (brass) button bearing the number '83' above which is a crown. The button is made from three components; a dished cover bearing the raised inscription, a flat backing plate, now corroded but bearing an inscription in impressed letters part of which reads ...GLAN... In the centre of the backing plate is a wire loop. This button was issued to the 83rd, 'County of Dublin' Regiment of Foot. The regiment was raised in 1793 and was in existence until 1881 which is was amalgamated with the 86th, County Down, regiment to form the Royal Irish Rifles. Diameter 20.2mm, Height 8.7mm,…
