A cast lead object, possibly a mount or weight in the form of a heraldic shield, of uncertain date although likely Medieval in date (c. 1350-1500) The object is in the form of a heater escutcheon, decorated in cast relief quarterly: 1 and 4 a bend; 2 and 3 a fret. While no tinctures are visible, but the charges and findspot make it very likely to be the arms of the Despenser family. The object is slightly bent, with an undecorated concave reverse unusual to weights of this type, which tend towards having flat bases that overlap the decorated front. Three holes have been roughly p…

Copper alloy looped mount, probably of Roman date The cast mount comprises a sub-circular loop on an integral domed base (with an overall length of 40.3mm and a weight of 38.3g). The loop (35.1mm wide x28.6mm high external and 23.9mm wide and 20.2mm high internal) is circular sectioned (5 - 6mm diameter) and is undecorated. There is a slight suggestion of wear facets on the interior of the top of the loop, which if correct, would seem to suggest strap-rubbing. The base is circular and hemispherical (with a basal diameter of 26.2mm and a height of 11mm) and has a grooved border ar…

Fragment of copper alloy decorated with a ring and dot motif. All sides are abraded, making it difficult to determine edges from breaks. The piece is broadly rectangular with two wasted opposing edges. There are the remnants of a protrusion at right angles to the sides at one corner. The reverse has no decoration and the fragment is gently convex in profile. There is a possibility the piece is a buckle fragment of ‘simple frame with plate’ form, the protrusion at the corner representing the beginning of the buckle frame and the wasted sides representing both the hole for the pin a…
