An incomplete copper alloy cross. This is three of the four arms of a copper alloy cross, which has been gilded. The arms extend from a diamond shaped centre, widening into a 'bulge' then narrowing again and ending in another widened knop. They are hemispherical in section, slightly flatter on the back. In the centre of the diamond is a small, round blue cabochon gem or glass piece, set proud of the centrepiece in a raised mount. There are rays (perhaps representing those from a halo) cast in to the metal emitting from this gem. One section is slightly shorter th…

A gilded copper alloy brooch or possibly a mount. A sub square centre section with four knops projecting from each of the corners via a short triangular stem. The central cast design is set in a circular dished depression, and consists of a many petalled (ten) flower with a futher flower motif in the centre of this, set above the larger flower. The raised border of the dished area is decorated with small pellets. The design is reminiscent of a Tudor rose. There is no apparant decoration on the knops. The whole has been gilded, of which much remains. There is an iron mount survivin…

A copper alloy enamelled zoomorphic brooch in the form of a duck or similar bird. The cast copper alloy bird is in the shape of an egg, in plan. The narrow end of the form is pointed to form the tail, the neck and head rises from the wider end. An incomplete copper alloy, cloisonne enamel disc brooch of the late early medieval period dating c.AD 975-1125. The brooch comprises a gilded circular back plate with a raised flange around the circumference within which is a cloisonné decoration. This is formed by creating cells with copper alloy wire and adding coloured enamels to these cells. The decoration varies, but in this example, there are seven evenly sized and spaced hemispherical cells around the edge of the circular face which are filled with blue enamel; there is then a central sub-c…

A complete silver annular brooch. The brooch is complete although twisted and folded, and appears to have been cut or stamped from a blank. It is made from thin silver, approximately 0.5mm thick, and 6mm wide. The hole for the pin has been crudely punched from the back of the brooch, the end of the pin is looped through this to secure it. The pin is pointed at the termination. The brooch is plain apart from a mark punched into the back that may be a hallmark or initials - shown in the inset of the image. It looks like a very elaborate I or L, and H, or possibly W and D. …
