Object type: BURIN
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Calderdale
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A possible burin formed on a crude blade of white flint. Unknown date, Mesolithic to Bronze Age (10,000 - 1000 BC). It is unclear where the flint was struck from. The faces are uneven, and most have a stepped termination scar. One end of the blade is much narrower and thinner. One side of this projection has short, abrupt, sub-parallel retouch, possibly to form a burin. There appears to be a removal across the end of the spur from the retouched edge. The tool is 38.1mm long, 16.3mm wide, 8.2mm thick. 3.3g. Burins are typically mesolithic, but the reuse of a crude blade i…

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Calderdale
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Five flint chunks; debitage, of uncertain date, Mesolithic to Bronze Age (10,000 - 1000 BC). There is one primary, and three secondary of white flint with white cortex. The last is tan coloured flint with inclusions, and appears to be naturally frost fractured. Since flint is not found locally naturally, it is probably a fractured piece of debitage.
