An Early Medieval silver early penny (sceat) of the Secondary Phase 'Triquestras' group (BMC type 52; Naismith Series TRd), dating to c AD720-30, mint unknown. Refs: Naismith 2017: table 4, pl. 13 nos 396-7; Gannon 2013: 118-19, pl. 515-17, especially 517. The coin is in poor condition, much of the design encrusted and corroded. However the characteristic wreath ties either side of the face are visible as is the tightly curved shoulders formed of lines and pellets. An early medieval silver early penny (sceat) of Primary Phase Series C2ii (BMC type 2, Blackburn C) dating to the period c.AD 700-10. Ref: Gannon 2013: 102-3, nos 128-35. The obverse features a Radiate bust of crude style facing right with a pyramidical neck, with Runic [ᚪᛈᚪ], APA before. The reverse depicts a beaded standard enclosing TOTII legend, probably with bases of crosses to sides and diagonals at angles.
