A silver Scottish twenty pence of Charles I dating to the period AD 1625 - 1642. Uncertain issue. Crowned thistle reverse. Mint uncertain.
The coin has been folded and has lost parts of its original edge. A rectangular cut is present on one edge where the two sides meet and a separate part of the coin can be seen wedged between the two sides.
This treatment may have been intended as a form of defacement though may also have been in order to allow the coin to be worn as an item of jewellery such as a pendant.
