A somewhat bent but otherwise intact silver hammered penny of Edward the Confessor, dating c. 1046-1048. Trefoil/quadilateral type, moneyer Wulfsige at the mint of Ipswich. North 817. This coin has been recorded on the EMC as 2019.0072. John Sadler lists only one other coin of Wulfsige in this type from the mint of Ipswich (now in Ipswich Museum). This example is from the same dies.

An incomplete silver hammered penny of Edward the confessor, 1042-1066 AD which has been adapted and reused as a brooch or decorative mount at a later date. Issued 1053-6 AD. Obverse shows bust right, bearded, wearing pointed helmet, holding sceptre. Obverse legend reads E[DWER]D REX. Reverse shows short cross voided, each arm terminating in three crescents, annulet at centre of cross. Reverse legend reads +LEOFP__LDO[NG]IPE. Dr Martin Allen has commented that "the coin is from the same dies as J.C. Sadler, The Ipswich Mint c.973-c.1210 A.D. Volume I. Eadgar to Aethelred II c.973-c.1016 A.D. (2010), p. 30, Fig. 13, and from the same obverse die as a coin of Wilebeart (Sadler, p. 31, Fig. 14).
