An incomplete Medieval coin: Continental penny of Gui of Collemede, Bishops of Cambrai in France, dating to AD 1296-1306. Mayhew type 99. A similar coin recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database from Worcestershire WAW-1E5F4D states that: Medieval English pennies were widely imitated on the continent and were known as crockards and pollards. A 'Crockard' is a penny with the bust crowned with flowers; a 'Pollard' is a coin without a crown or flowers. Cf Mayhew, NJ, 1982, Sterling Imitations of Edwardian Type, The Royal Numismatic Society, London, pp 56-60.
The coin is very badly damaged with sections missing, and is comprised two broken pieces sellotaped together by the finder. The reverse cross can also be seen stamped through to the obverse.
The coin is 19.4 x 14.5 mm and weighs 0.63g.
